The Movies of 1999

This week Jason and Craig eat a lot of spaghetti and talk with a New York accent as the enter the world of the mafia, beginning with Enemy of the State, a prescient surveillance-state thriller starring a pre-slap Will Smith before wondering about what went wrong with the woeful Mickey Blue Eyes, a forgettable rom-com that milks the last drop out of the world's fascination with the awkward and foppish Hugh Grant. Once more into the breach Jason and Craig travel to 1950's Italy this week to join the beautiful, fashionable, privileged youth of America in the original White Lotus as we follow the psychopath Tom Ripley as he sabotages his own happiness, before fleeing to Morocco where a 1970's mum drags her two girls along with her in a voyage of self-discovery in the autobiographical and strangely named Hideous Kinky. We then cut live to this week's movie night to find out if the gambler's fallacy is really as false as it is claimed (spoiler: it is). See you at the movies!

It's time once again for our double-feature of an A-list and a B-list movie from 1999; this time Craig and Jason sit down to discuss a pair of period dramas, one based on a John Irving classic and featuring far too much snow (the fourth movie so far to be based in a state abutting the Canadian border), while our optional palate-cleanser this week was a Jane Austin chick flick with a bit of a dark underbelly.
